Josh Saunders is a Supervisor at  Memorial Gardens and Cemeteries operated by Wollongong City Council.

Josh’s presentation will provide ideas based on reducing maintenance within existing cemeteries that may be now closed but continue to be maintained to meet community needs and expectations. The nature of cemetery maintenance is very labour intensive, so Wollongong City Council are identifying areas where they can implement different ideas to reduce or eliminate maintenance. They are also identifying areas and existing infrastructure that can be used to generate further revenue and give customers further options for ashes interments with minimal implementation costs.

Josh has been with local government for almost 10 years, starting at Kiama Council working as part of a parks and gardens crew before moving to Wollongong City Council in 2016 and taking up a role working solely within the Memorial Gardens and Cemeteries. He is a trade qualified golf course green keeper so the main focus of his 17 year career has been around the implementation of grounds maintenance plans for individual sites to meet the needs of a specific customer base.
